Jerry Models Ruff Wear Pet HarnessOn Saturday, I met the neat folks who own Bark Harbor, a really terrific pet boutique in downtown Bar Harbor, Maine. What a great store! My Mom and Dad walked in there to check it out, and when they went inside, the really nice lady there loved me so much! She gave me lots of hugs, and then the biggest surprise of all, she gave me a “demo” Ruff Wear Harness and some fab dog treats. Aren’t I fashionable now?!

Senior dog bone cancer survivorI get a lot of letters from dog parents who are dealing with a bone cancer diagnosis. Many parents aren’t sure if their senior dog can handle being a tripawd.

We know that amputation is a tough decision, especially when older dogs are involved. And there’s no “right” answer; every dog has a different health situation, and responds to it in their own way, usually pawsitively!

Based on the dog parents we’ve talked to, it seems that most dogs who are good candidates for the surgery (your vet can advise) will bounce right back to their old selves in no time, once that nasty pain is gone.

doggy ice creamAfter tiring me out at Sand Beach and feasting on lobster, my people went into a market while in Northeast Harbor, Maine in search of some local wine. They found some, but I don’t care about that.

I wish they would’ve bought something else they found… ice cream treats for dogs! This is the first time they had ever heard of such a thing. Too bad they care for my health so much!

But check this out. I wouldn’t touch anything from Purina anyway. I would have gladly settled for the YögHund organic frozen yogurt for dogs! It’s oragnic, and yogurt is good for you right? Maybe Ben and Jerry’s will jump on this bandwagon!

Back in Vermont we enjoyed another milestone on our cross country adventure. One spot on our must-see list was the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, VT. We just had to go since their ice cream is part of the reason I have my name. My people have always said if they were to ever add another four (or three) legged member to our pack, they could name him Ben.

Whatever, I just like the ice cream! But my people know better than to give me too much. Usually they just let me lick the bowl. But this was a special occasion…

Tripod Swims in the Atlantic OceanWhat a week. On Monday I celebrated 10 whole months since my surgery, and today I swam in the Atlantic Ocean! I did it, I’ve arrived. I’m a zillion miles from home and still going strong. Even though the docs told my Mom and Dad that the chances of me making it this far were slim to none, I proved them wrong, didn’t I?

My people recently took me to meet a fellow YouTube star when passing through Vermont on our full-time RVing sabbatical. While Heidi of creekracer fame is no Tripawd, she sure is a beautiful German Shepherd bitch. Our people have been commenting on each other’s videos since before we left on our cross-country adventure. So when we got into Heidi’s neck of the woods we just had to track her down for a good butt-sniffing.

While I just wanted to play, play, play when we met, I did respect Heidi since we were on her turf and she is a respectable older woman. But our people brought out the cameras anyway. Below are results of them following us around as Heidi showed me her stomping grounds for some awesome grass grazing …

Back when I still lived in California, I heard from a Big Dawg named Finnegan, who lives in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Three Legged Bone Cancer Dog SurvivorsFinny is quite a big guy. He’s an Irish Wolfhound that’s towers way, way over me. Just when I thought I was a big boy, he made me look at small as a weiner dog. But the reason he’s so cool, is he is a tripawd like me. And he is absolute proof of the miracles that can happen even if a dog gets cancer — he is now fifteen months post-surgery! Yeay!
