My people have been busy making movies of our full-time RV road-trip, but here is a quick one they shot of me running through the woods one morning back in New Jersey. Nothing fancy, but it does show how well we tripawds can walk – and run – on a leash, though I prefer to roam free!

New readers and companions of new three-legged dogs should know that it is actually easier for us to hop along at a fast pace than it is to walk slowly. Since we have to throw our weight forward, the momentum helps us get along. But we do tire out quicker. So keep up with us, and just take us on shorter walks, more often!

Calpurnia Working Sled Dog with Harness After Leg AmputationA few of my tripawd friends’ parents have written to me, asking me if I’ve ever acted like my missing leg was still there. They call this “Phantom Limb Pain” in humans. For dogs, this means that a dog may start licking their missing leg area like crazy, or maybe have lots of muscle twitching.

Calpurnia, my new tripod friend, has a great human named TC, who has written a wonderful paper about Phantom Limb Pain. TC writes about the way she has treated Calpurnia’s pain, and also sent in news about a new harness that was made just for this beautiful snow bunny (uh, I mean dog).

Tripod Diet Tips from JerryMy new pal Eisen, from Colorado, is going into surgery on Friday, and will officially be a Tripawd after that. Let’s all wish him luck and send happy woofs and barks his way.

Meanwhile, his Mom asked us what kinds of foods have helped me stay strong and healthy after my cancer diagnosis. So here’s a short list of the foods I get on a regular basis. My Mom must be doing something right, because I just reached my 11 month post-surgery anniversary!

Bone Cancer Dog Eisen from Southern ColoradoWe just heard from Eisen, an eight year old Shepherd from Southern Colorado. Eisen’s Mom just got word that he has cancer, and she is in great need of recommendations for fantastic vets in the Southern Colorado area. She would also love to talk with anyone else who has been through the tripawd bone cancer experience.

If you have any advice or referrals to share, please contact her ASAP.

Tripod Dog Takes Cross Country RV TripBoy, I thought I was on the trip of a lifetime.

We just heard about an incredible journey that one special tripawd just completed.

The tripawd, Anna, started out at Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue in Waynesboro, Georgia. These great dog rescuers found a loving home for her, all the way across the USA in Washington state. To get her to her forever home, Anna was relayed from RV to RV, across the U.S., in an effort that was coordinated on RV.net.

The Good Sam Club Magazine has the whole story.

Anna, you are an honorary Good Jerry Club member for life!

I heard my tripawd pal Lalla was having a hard time locating a Ruffwear Harness like mine in Isreal, so my people sent her the one we were given by the nice folks at Bark Harbor. In return she sent me this great little graphic novella…

Jasmine: Bone Cancer SurvivorWe love hearing from other canine cancer heroes who have been living healthy, happy lives, long past their vet’s prognosis.

My vet said I would only live four months, at most, past my diagnosis. And look at me now . . . it’s almost been one year!

And recently, we heard from Jasmine, who is throwing those post-cancer predictions off the charts. She had her amputation surgery over two years ago!

Well OK, not the whole thing. But back in the day, I used to be quite the hiker. You can see movies from a couple of the great treks I took on all four legs here on my three-legged dog videos page. I used to wear my own backpack, and even hiked the Pacific Coast Trail. Well OK, not the whole thing. But here’s a video my people made of me enjoying our brief hike on the Appalachian Trail in Vermont …

Genie Bone Cancer Survivor with Ruff Wear HarnessGenie is my new friend in Canada, and she became a Tripawd this past week. Genie is 12 years old, and because she was such a healthy girl to begin with, she is now doing so great after her amputation surgery.

Genie’s Mom has been feeding her a completely holistic diet since she was a little puppy. So now that she’s battling cancer, she has a real “leg up” for beating the odds, because she is in such great health already.

Here is a great story about how her Mom Jessie has given her the best life a dog could ask for, after being adopted from the pound. Her Mom wrote it and sent it in to us. Read more to learn about how you can create a healthy diet and lifestyle for us dawgs, with or without a disease like cancer.

Jerry Visits the Robert Frost House in VermontThis month is my birthday month and I’m Ten Years Old now! Wow, who woulda thought?

My Mom and Dad celebrate my birthday all month long, because they don’t really know when I was born. I was a pound puppy, and when they came in to take me home, the doc told them I was “about” six months old. So what the heck they thought, let’s call October his birthday. Now I get to party for 31 days!

I’m still waiting for a yummy doggie birthday cake though. We haven’t seen a doggie barkery yet, but as soon as we do, oh boy I’m going to pig out. I’m going to have a party with my cousin Buzz Lightyear when we get to Troy, New York.

I just like how I get presents all month! Watch how I enjoy unwrapping them all by myself …
