Ever since Jim heard the Big Dog talk about his daily mantra for Malcolm, he’s been thinking up one to keep my tail wagging every day.
After Malcolm’s osteosarcoma metastasized, Luke would wake him every morning with a resounding “we will never give up” … and now, Jim has proven his age by adapting some of his favorite Devo lyrics:
We shall attack this day with vigor vim vitality and punch!
And as they say … you know that’s pep! But I just tell him, Duh. That’s how we dogs greet everyday anyway. Does this look like I’m about to let a little thing like cancer let me down?
Darren from ProBlogger.net compiled the results from over 30 other (human) bloggers in this mashup of Why I Blog videos. And while I have lots of fun three-legged dog movies, this is my first that gets up close and personal. Perhaps we’ll do more.
I’ll spare you why I think it’s so popular. But if you want to see the rude comments about what people think of my tongue at about 00:28 you can view this video on YouTube and add your own comment.
It seems like I always have a camera in my face. Especially lately, but more about that later. My people have so many pictures of me … but they say it will never be enough.

My people just remembered they took these photos from our workamping stay on the farm, back in Floriduh … They were going to recycle a large Rubbermaid tub that had cracked, so I took care of it for them!
When they found me in my pen at the Sequoia Humane Society over nine years ago, I was the only one making a racket. And I had a big laundry basket that I had shredded to pieces. Seeing that tub brought back some memories for us all.
Well, I made it to Texas, just in time for a pawty in the pawk! My pals, Murphy, Hudson and Luke held a fun BBQ in Austin. This laid back event was just a warm up to the kick off of their 2000 mile walk to Boston next month. It was a perfect, sunny day, and a bunch of us tripawds had a rollicking good time!
The weather forecast in Austin is looking pretty nasty for Saturday. As much fun as all that mud would be for us dogs, my people and the Big Dog have made a change of plans.
The 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Kickoff BBQ Party has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Feb. 17. We’ll still gather in Zilker Park’s Pecan Grove picnic area. And it will still be from 1:00 - 6:00.
We have also heard from a few other tripawds who plan to be there. Tell a friend! See y’all there …
We’re working our way West and looking forward to meeting Hudson and Murphy this weekend at the cookout to help kick off their 2,000 mile walk with the Big Dog. We’ve finally nailed down a location in with some shelter just in case it’s raining.
Join us from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, February 16 in the Pecan Grove picnic area at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Pecan Grove is just East of the playscape to the left as you enter Zilker Park from Barton Springs Dr. This informal event is just a get-together to meet all the volunteers that are making this amazing walk for a cure possible.
Bring your leash and have your people bring some food for the grill or a side dish and some spare change if possible. The event is totally free and all are welcome but we will have a raffle for some of the SynFlex glucosamine supplement I’ve been taking as well as some other goodies. We will also be taking orders for the new Tripawds book now available! Stay tuned for more details on that. See y’all at there! Download PDF map of Zilker Park.
If you haven’t been following the Big Dog’s blog, you’ll be happy to hear that a date has been set for his 2000 mile hike from Austin to Boston with his boys Hudson and Murphy. On March 16, 2008 these two courageous dogs and their super human will embark on a journey to rid the world of cancer.
If you are anywhere near the Austin area on February 16th please join us at the pre-launch cook-out for canine cancer. My people and I will be traveling through and are honored to help host this informal event.
We will probably gather in Zilker Park from 1-6 p.m. for some god ol’ barbecue, beers, and a chance to meet the amazing team of folks that is making the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles hike a reality.
Bring your dogs, your passion to help find a cure, and some food to throw in the grill or a side dish. Enough to share or a couple bucks to pitch in for the event would be much appreciated. See y’all there!
The story discussed amputation as the treatment of choice for canine cancer, improved quality of life, and other common concerns.
“With our pets, it is not just about the length of time we have with them, but their ability to enjoy that time to its fullest. That enjoyment is priceless - and is sometimes worth an arm or a leg.“
I couldn’t agree more! Many thanks to the Star Tribune for helping to spread the word that it’s better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.
