All about Jerry’s people and new friends he’s met

I Love My Big Barney! It seems like I always have a camera in my face. Especially lately, but more about that later. My people have so many pictures of me … but they say it will never be enough.

I guess that’s why it took so long for them to upgrade my three-legged dog photo gallery page. But it’s finally done! Check it out here.

Powered by the NextGen Galley WordPress plugin – whatever that is – you will now find various different themed galleries with photos of me, my adventures, my pack, other tripawds I have met, and much, much more.

At the top of the page, you will find our most recent photos and a few more totally random pictures. Scroll all the way down to see me with all four legs. Send us your picture and we’ll include you too!

Just click on the gallery thumbnails to browse photos at full size. Check back often for new photos, and be sure to let us know of any technical difficulties. And don’t forget about our Tripawds picture book – customizable with your story and photos – suitable for any dog lover’s coffee table or vet’s waiting room.

dougbeezerboomer.jpgOh, you humans and your silly ways of thinking. You’re always talking about the past and the future, but how many of you are experiencing the moment you and your dog are in right now?

All week long my Mom’s been saying dumb thinks like “I shouldda done this…or that..” She seems to think she did something wrong these last 14 and a half months, and that’s why my cancer came back. She was “shouldding” all over herself, until she got this story about coping with canine cancer, sent to her from my friend Moose’s dad, Joel.

An Excerpt from “On Fear
© Doug Koktavy

. . . I realized my fear of the disease was the fuel that was being used against me. Devilishly clever, my biggest enemy was not the disease, but me. I was the power source being used to generate the very negative energy destroying my own being and wasting a special day with my beloved dog.

This paradoxical contradiction was glaring. I had thought the growing presence of disease was causing my mounting fear. In fact, just the opposite was occurring. My daily increasing fear was causing the disease to grow and become more powerful. I decided it was high time to start working for me and the Beez, not against us.

If your pawrents are coping with your cancer, then you need to take them to Doug’s website. He has a lot of beautiful words there that will make them happy and sad, but most importantly, will get them to live every precious moment with you to the fullest, instead of acting like a silly human and fretting about your health. Good luck!

Jerry and Lalla on Dream BeachMy girlfriend in Israel sent me a St. Patrick’s Day greeting. She is so sweet.

It featured us on a beautiful, dreamy beach. As in her dreams. Like I said. Isn’t she sweet? And cute too. But she’s a bit for away, unfortunately. And I must have been in everyone’s dreams lately.

I’m always chasing rabbits while I sleep with one eye open. But Jim barely slept the night before we left Los Angeles. I entered his dream to help him out. But here’s how he tells it …

Dr. Mazzi listens to Jerry's lungsI went to the County Line Animal Hospital in La Habra today for a refill on my heartworm medicine since we’ll be on the road and off the beaten path for at least the next six months. While we were there, the nice vet convinced my people to get some x-rays of my chest.

Jim and René have always said they would rather not know if my osteosarcoma had returned or metastasized in my lungs. They believed I would let them know if the cancer came back if and when the time came. But the doctor recommended x-rays because he believes “it is better to know than to not know” … so, they agreed and I went through with it for them.

Bored Jerry Destroys Gift from LallaJim just spent a whole lot of time in front of his computer, when I wish he would have been playing with me!

But we heard from some people about how this site had certain layout issues. Issues, never problems, as I like to say!

So I sat by while Jim worked away, knowing that it was for the good tripawd lovers everywhere.

At the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles kickoff cookout we had in Austin, I finally got to meet Hudson and Murphy. And my people had a chance to throw a few questions at the Big Dog about their journey to find a cure for canine cancer…

Jerry Waits PatientlyThe weather forecast in Austin is looking pretty nasty for Saturday. As much fun as all that mud would be for us dogs, my people and the Big Dog have made a change of plans.

The 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Kickoff BBQ Party has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Feb. 17. We’ll still gather in Zilker Park’s Pecan Grove picnic area. And it will still be from 1:00 - 6:00.

We have also heard from a few other tripawds who plan to be there. Tell a friend! See y’all there …

We’re working our way West and looking forward to meeting Hudson and Murphy this weekend at the cookout to help kick off their 2,000 mile walk with the Big Dog. We’ve finally nailed down a location in with some shelter just in case it’s raining.

Zilker Park Map

Join us from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, February 16 in the Pecan Grove picnic area at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Pecan Grove is just East of the playscape to the left as you enter Zilker Park from Barton Springs Dr. This informal event is just a get-together to meet all the volunteers that are making this amazing walk for a cure possible.

Bring your leash and have your people bring some food for the grill or a side dish and some spare change if possible. The event is totally free and all are welcome but we will have a raffle for some of the SynFlex glucosamine supplement I’ve been taking as well as some other goodies. We will also be taking orders for the new Tripawds book now available! Stay tuned for more details on that. See y’all at there! Download PDF map of Zilker Park.

My people were just contacted by a very nice vet with a blog for pet lovers who had some nice thing to say about this website.

Dr. Patty Khuly with Soph and Vince“As a veterinarian and the mother of a Boxer who lost her battle with osteosarcoma nine years ago, this website hits close to home.

Kudos for undertaking such important work in educating the public on the beauty of three-leggedness and the huge role we humans play in minimizing our pets’ suffering through appropriate treatment of cancers. Thank you!!”

While we appreciate the kind comments, the true kudos go out to you, our readers who are helping us spread the word that it is better to hop on three legs than to limp on four. Thank you!!!

So keep up the good work by joining the discussion about cancer in dogs. Share your story, ask for advice, or answer questions from others faced with the difficult decision of animal amputation.
