All about Jerry’s people and new friends he’s met

Dr. Mazzi listens to Jerry's lungsI went to the County Line Animal Hospital in La Habra today for a refill on my heartworm medicine since we’ll be on the road and off the beaten path for at least the next six months. While we were there, the nice vet convinced my people to get some x-rays of my chest.

Jim and René have always said they would rather not know if my osteosarcoma had returned or metastasized in my lungs. They believed I would let them know if the cancer came back if and when the time came. But the doctor recommended x-rays because he believes “it is better to know than to not know” … so, they agreed and I went through with it for them.

Bored Jerry Destroys Gift from LallaJim just spent a whole lot of time in front of his computer, when I wish he would have been playing with me!

But we heard from some people about how this site had certain layout issues. Issues, never problems, as I like to say!

So I sat by while Jim worked away, knowing that it was for the good tripawd lovers everywhere.

Jerry Waits PatientlyThe weather forecast in Austin is looking pretty nasty for Saturday. As much fun as all that mud would be for us dogs, my people and the Big Dog have made a change of plans.

The 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Kickoff BBQ Party has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Feb. 17. We’ll still gather in Zilker Park’s Pecan Grove picnic area. And it will still be from 1:00 - 6:00.

We have also heard from a few other tripawds who plan to be there. Tell a friend! See y’all there …

We’re working our way West and looking forward to meeting Hudson and Murphy this weekend at the cookout to help kick off their 2,000 mile walk with the Big Dog. We’ve finally nailed down a location in with some shelter just in case it’s raining.

Zilker Park Map

Join us from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, February 16 in the Pecan Grove picnic area at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Pecan Grove is just East of the playscape to the left as you enter Zilker Park from Barton Springs Dr. This informal event is just a get-together to meet all the volunteers that are making this amazing walk for a cure possible.

Bring your leash and have your people bring some food for the grill or a side dish and some spare change if possible. The event is totally free and all are welcome but we will have a raffle for some of the SynFlex glucosamine supplement I’ve been taking as well as some other goodies. We will also be taking orders for the new Tripawds book now available! Stay tuned for more details on that. See y’all at there! Download PDF map of Zilker Park.

My people were just contacted by a very nice vet with a blog for pet lovers who had some nice thing to say about this website.

Dr. Patty Khuly with Soph and Vince“As a veterinarian and the mother of a Boxer who lost her battle with osteosarcoma nine years ago, this website hits close to home.

Kudos for undertaking such important work in educating the public on the beauty of three-leggedness and the huge role we humans play in minimizing our pets’ suffering through appropriate treatment of cancers. Thank you!!”

While we appreciate the kind comments, the true kudos go out to you, our readers who are helping us spread the word that it is better to hop on three legs than to limp on four. Thank you!!!

So keep up the good work by joining the discussion about cancer in dogs. Share your story, ask for advice, or answer questions from others faced with the difficult decision of animal amputation.

If you haven’t been following the Big Dog’s blog, you’ll be happy to hear that a date has been set for his 2000 mile hike from Austin to Boston with his boys Hudson and Murphy. On March 16, 2008 these two courageous dogs and their super human will embark on a journey to rid the world of cancer.

If you are anywhere near the Austin area on February 16th please join us at the pre-launch cook-out for canine cancer. My people and I will be traveling through and are honored to help host this informal event.

2 Dogs 2000 Miles Cancer Cure Hike Stage One

We will probably gather in Zilker Park from 1-6 p.m. for some god ol’ barbecue, beers, and a chance to meet the amazing team of folks that is making the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles hike a reality.

Bring your dogs, your passion to help find a cure, and some food to throw in the grill or a side dish. Enough to share or a couple bucks to pitch in for the event would be much appreciated. See y’all there!

I love Christmas. Well OK, I really don’t care what day it is. If I get to open a present, it’s a great day. I just love tearing into packages! Even if it is something my people have given to me before and just re-wrapped again. I don’t care, it’s the unwrapping I really like.

This year was extra special for me. It was my 1oth Christmas. My 9th with Jim and René, and my second as a Tripawd. But as you can see, I still enjoy opening my own presents. Especially if it’s my favorite talking Barney!
